If you are thinking about buying a greenhouse or glasshouse you should make sure you take the following features into account:

- Check that the ridge height is at least 1.7 m (5 ft 6 in), making sure that you take protruding roof ventilator openings into account.

- The amount of headroom will also depend on the height of the eaves. For a comfortable working space, these should be at least 1.35 m (4ft 6 in).

- Check that the cross bracing on aluminium alloy greenhouses is sturdy enough to make the structure rigid.

- It can be expensive to replace glass of a non-standard size such as those used in a Dutch light greenhouse, so bear this in mind when choosing a design. A standard size is 60 x 45 cm (24 x 18 in) or 60 cm (24 in) square.

- If you are going to need your greenhouse to be consistently warm over the winter, think about installing double-glazing. However, this will increase the cost significantly.

- Bear in mind that the total roof ventilation area should equal one sixth of the floor area you may need to install additional ventilators.

- Gutters and downpipes are often optional; however, they are very useful for channelling rainwater so that it may be collected and used for watering. They will also prevent rain from flowing from the roof, damaging nearby plants.

- Side ventilators are excellent for providing a through-flow of air during the summer. Make sure that these close tightly to prevent heat loss in the winter.

- Sliding or hinged doors must be at least 60 cm (24 in) wide – more if wheelchair or wheelbarrow access is required, and without a ‘lip’. Sliding doors have the advantage that they can be opened at any width to provide additional ventilation, and will not slam in wind. Make sure that any door shuts tightly and does not let in draughts.

- A kick panel at the base of the door reduces the risk of the glass panel breaking.

- When comparing prices between different greenhouse models or suppliers, bear in mind that a base may be an optional extra. The majority of timber- framed structures will need one. Some bases will come with a step, which may make wheelchair access and wheelbarrow use difficult.

- Any greenhouse that is not attached to a brick base should be secured using ground anchors.

One of the most popular furniture items purchased for the home is garden furniture items. This type of furniture is designed to withstand the elements and provide a place for relaxation in the outdoor garden or yard of the homeowner. Over the years, many different varieties of garden furniture have been created by retailers all over the world, creating many opportunities for a person to find furniture that is attractive and will fit their needs.

Garden Furniture Varieties

The most common type of garden furniture style sold around the world today is wooden garden furniture. This furniture is generally created from one of several general types of wood, such as oak or pine, and is covered by paint or a specific shade of stain that is designed to bring out the natural beauty of the wood. There are a number of different varieties of garden furniture made of wood that may be chosen by a consumer and each type has some signature differences.

There are also metal garden furniture styles available for purchase at many different retailers that specialize in selling furniture. Metal furniture is considered to be long lasting and requires very little maintenance to keep the furniture looking great for years. This type of furniture is becoming very popular with a large number of people because it is simple to maintain and does not require replacement within a few years because it is virtually indestructible.

Another type of garden furniture that is commonly purchased today is plastic garden furniture. This type of furniture is less expensive than most of the other types of furniture, but generally does not last as long. Some types of plastic furniture are flimsy and easily damaged by the elements. Plastic garden furniture can also be easily stained by foreign matter or bleached by the sun and generally needs to be replaced within a few years of purchasing it. Some of the most stylish types of garden furniture available to consumers are the wrought iron furniture items.

These furniture items are easily distinguished from other types of metal furniture because of the unique look of the furniture. The shades of gray present in the furniture create a lovely complement to the colors of nature that surrounds it and gives the entire garden a classic feel that cannot be duplicated with the placement of furniture made out of any other type of material. There are many different types of garden furniture available to choose from, so be sure to take your time and find the material and style that appeals to you the most and would look the best in your garden.

6 SIMPLE WAYS TO MAKE COMPOST

You can easily make your own compost in about 1-3 months period as against the traditional method by following the simple steps outlined below. Compared to the old ways of composting, where it takes 6-8 months to make a quality compost, this new technique could make you more quality compost in just a short period.

This will boast your production output thus increases your income while giving you more available stock of quality compost in your stock room.

But before we go on the composting process, plan out the following

Have an available empty bin ready for filling up.

Have a stockpile of brown and green materials used to fill the empty bin.

Make an effort to take about 1-2 hours of your time everyday until your compost is ready for use.

Once youve readied your materials for composting, the final activities followed.

6 Simple Ways to Make Compost

1) Place coarse materials at the bottom of the bin. Place about a 3-inch layer of any coarse materials available such as; rice straw, corn stalk, hay, grass clippings, grass cuttings, tall weeds, etc. Arrange them near the bottom of the bin. You can chop them to make way for an increase surface for easy and fast decomposition.

2) Build up the pile until desired height is attained. Add 2-3 inch layer of fresh moistened green grass, followed by the same layer thick of brown moistened materials. Repeat the layering and moistening process until the bin is full. The pile should have a wrung-out sponge consistency.

3) Intermix with the use of an Activator. Intermix layers with a nitrogen-rich activator as the stock pile is building up. Place this activator on top of food scraps or any smelly items placed on top of the pile.

4) Cover the compost bin for protection and fast decomposition. To retain moisture and heat while in the process of decomposition and to ward off animals especially rodents. This would also insure a good air flow around and into the bin which contributes for faster decomposing process.

5) Turn the mixture. To make the decomposition faster, youve to turn the pile every 7-10 days. This brings also the outer layers into the center where the temperature is at its hottest portion. Turning also creates passages for air flow and moisture, thus causing reheating and faster decompositon.

6) Check up for the moisture level content. Youve got to check the moisture level on a weekly basis. And always add water to maintain its consistency of a wrung-out sponge to get a superior compost material.

With this new methods of composting, youd always have an available supply of quality compost in a short period. With your ready stock, youll not encounter problems when youre ready to plant continuously the whole year round.

Just as wooden garden sheds, gazebos, and pergolas are making a comeback so are arbors and arches for your yard. Arbors are being used to lead to patios, sitting areas, garden sheds, gardens, play areas etc. This is because arbors set up a natural entrance to an area you want to take your visitors. Some arbors are also being used for private seating in secluded spots around the yard. You can have an arbor with fixed seating or an arbor with a swing.

BUILD YOUR OWN WOODEN ARBOR It is really easy to build an arbor if you have a good set of plans. If you are like me you first hesitate about building your own arbor because you do not know how to make the curved cuts for an arched arbor. There is a simple solution to this and that is proven arbor plans which will show you how to make all of the cuts necessary. Another solution to this problem is to simply make a pergola style arbor where the sides are vertical and the top of the arbor is a flat top. This way there are no curves or angles to cut. Everything in a pergola style arbor is square cut.

PURCHASE ARBORS IN KIT FORM There are many manufacturers today that make arbors and arches in kit form for ease of the homeowners. Arbor kits can be installed quickly and easily by the homeowner. They now even make no-dig kits to allow you to install an arbor without having to dig any holes in your yard. Talk about making life easy.

STYLES OF ARBORS When we think about arbors we normally think about arched or curved arbors. I know I did and that stopped me at first because I knew I could not figure out the curved cuts. But when you look around today there are a lot of pergola style arbors and once vines are grown over the tops you will forget what kind of top the arbor has. Arbors also come with gates, benches, side fence walls, and are free standing or attached to other structures.

MATERIALS FOR ARBORS Arbors are now made out of metal, vinyl, and wood. Metal arbors and vinyl arbors come in a variety of colors. Metal arbors come in black, white and green. Wooden arbors are made out of teak, cedar, or redwood. These woods are used to make arbors to prevent rot and decay.

REASONS FOR INSTALLING AN ARBOR The best use of an arbor is to direct foot traffic to an area of your yard in the way you want your visitors to approach a certain area. By providing the pathway you want people to follow you prevent foot paths from being worn in the yard. You build your path, install an arbor, landscape around the arbor and direct the traffic the way you want it to go. Arbors also frame the view you want visitors to have of highlighted special areas in your yard. They add beauty and with seating they also provide functionality to the structure. Arbors also give you many landscaping options for vertical plantings such as ivys, vines, and roses. Arbors provide for a vertical change of pace in the normally flat world of our yards.

Vegetables have always been the richest source of nutrients. They have a number of preventive, healing, and soothing qualities and can never be substituted by the junk foods that you love. You might counter argue saying that crunching those carrots and celery is like biting into a box of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides that are used on the vegetables. But considering the health concerns, the new hymn for gardening is to grow organic vegetables!

If you are close to nature or a complete health freak then there is nothing better to munch in than a bunch of fresh carrots, right from your own backyard. As a matter of fact carrot farming can be profitable business on a bigger picture. All you need is a small space in your backyard, the determination to grow them, and the right knowledge.

In organic farming, you need compost and fertilizers that are derived from organic matter that decomposes gradually, these give the necessary nutrients and thereby a good health to your plants. To begin with growing organic carrots, you need to loosen the soil first and sow your carrot seeds directly into the loose soil.

Many experts say that sowing the carrot seeds at least three weeks before the previous spring frost will give better results. As and when you sow the seed add the organic compost to the soil. The seeds should be left on top of the soil, but you have to ensure that the seeds and soil is moist. Once the seeds germinate add some mulch to retain adequate moisture. Thinning the seeds as per the directions given on the seed pack helps if planting has been undertaken thickly.

One important thing when you grow carrots is to keep the soil moist and nourish your carrots with mulch and fish emulsion as they grow. Protect them from pests. Soon you will have your own, fresh organic carrots to munch on. Grow organic vegetables, and stay healthy!

If your vegetable garden is not yielding much or your flowers from the flower bed look nothing like the plush ones shown in a magazine then it is a sign that your plants are lacking vital nutrients. The best way to ensure your plants get these nutrients is by making a simple choice. Choose organic gardening compost instead of the chemical ones. The result will vary tremendously.

The health of the plants in your garden is important as our own health. It should never be ignored. Health of a vegetable garden also affects the people who consume the vegetables. Organically prepared compost is easy to make and is cheaper than the chemical fertilizers. Compost is the best way to give your plants all the vital nutrients it needs.

Compost is almost like a plant food. It has all the nutrients needed by your plant in the right amounts. Plants absorb nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus from the soil through the roots. Compost provides it with all these nutrients which sometimes lack in the soil naturally. It is most importantly chemical-free.

Organic compost generally is insoluble and stays in the soil longer than the chemical ones. Therefore it restores the nutrients the soil may have lost due to plants or leeching caused by chemical fertilizers. A good fertile soil is the important necessity in maintaining a garden.

Since organic compost is thicker and insoluble than its chemical counterparts, it traps moisture in the mud also. Plants need water to absorb their nutrients and the more moisture it locks in the soil, the healthier your plant will get. Organic compost does not need to be bought at a store. It can be easily made in your home itself with little preparation.

Organic gardening compost is made by decomposing anything which decomposes like leftover food, rotten veggies or even animal waste. Dog and cat waste are generally not used as they may spread infection. These materials are filled in layers in a pit covered from rain. It must be mixed regularly so that it decomposes evenly.

Does the grass have a directional pile?
Yes, this method is increasingly popular and the installation time is very little. If purchasing a product with a low fibre height it may be necessary to install rubber matting first.

Can I lay artificial grass straight over decking?
Only on landscape products and when first unrolled. This is created by the manufacturing process however, unlike other products, brushing with a stiff broom against the pile will lift the fibres. Walking on it thereafter will mix the fibres together giving the appearance of a natural lawn.

What are the benefits of installing artificial grass?
Installing artificial grass effectively eliminates the time a conventional lawn takes to maintain. No further use of electrical or petrol consuming equipment required. Summer scorch and water shortages are of no concern. Muddy feet and paws are no longer a problem. Preferable to replacing existing lawns with bricks, stone or concrete. Tidy throughout the year. Aesthetically pleasing and natural appearance.

Is the artificial grass safe for kids?
Artificial grass is perfect for use by children who benefit from outdoor activity areas. It’s is a substitute for worn out natural grass, its very hardwearing and is an effective buffer against minor accidents.

What are the costs of artificial grass?
The financial outlay is equivalent to purchasing a quality domestic carpet, the price dependent upon the amount of artificial grass required and its purpose e.g. general domestic; landscaping; sport or ornamental. Professional installation costs vary according to terrain e.g. solid surface or that which requires excavation. If you are in any doubt then please call the office and we will be happy to answer your questions.

My dog causes patches on the lawn, will this stop when I have my artificial grass fitted?
Pets urine will not create scorching however, removal of excreta and regular hosing are recommended for hygienic purposes.

Will this be good under my trampoline?
Yes, artificial grass is perfect for suppressing the weeds and is always aesthetically pleasing all year round. Many people are now realizing that their grass does not grow properly under the trampoline and eventually turns muddy.

My lawn is always flooded will the artificial grass stop this happening?
If this is a problem on your existing lawn it will be necessary to install suitable drainage at the time of excavation.

What happens when it rains a lot?
Artificial grass is manufactured to drain at 40 gallons per hour. Therefore, providing your existing lawn does not have a drainage problem and the artificial grass is correctly installed it will drain efficiently.

What sort of base is recommended?
Many installers recommend a good drainage system of crushed hardcore followed by a layer of crushed sand however, if the area already has good drainage a suitable quantity of crushed sand would suffice.

Do I have to maintain the new grass?
Maintenance is very low; all you need to do is remove autumn leaves, germinating weeds and biodegradable matter that decompose resulting in soil formation.

How long will our artificial grass last?
The lifespan of artificial grass is 15-20 years based on normal domestic use. Heavy use in one concentrated area may have an adverse affect.

Is the installation of the artificial grass best left to a professional or can you DIY?
A professional installation service is recommended for best results but can be undertaken by a DIY enthusiast, in good physical health, using appropriate tools.

Do I need to water the grass?
Never again and your new grass will never be scorched by drought.

What if I damaged an area do I have to have all the lawn replaced?
Damaged areas can be replaced with new artificial grass. Request or save an off cut to ensure the same shade of colour.

How easy is it to cut and shape artificial grass?
The use of a sharp Stanley knife is essential and, therefore best undertaken with caution. Cutting the underside is easy to cut any shape required.

Will weeds grow on the artificial grass?
Weeds cannot grow through. Should anchorage occur on the surface area weeds are easily removed. Prevention is by means of removing biodegradable matter which would otherwise decompose to form a soil base.

Can I put the artificial grass straight on to concrete?
If the area of artificial grass will be for general use we recommend infill or grit sand base onto the concrete to ensure an adequate drainage.

Do I need to worry about insects?
An artificial grass surface will eliminate 99% of insects. Those you do find will most likely be non- resident and merely passing through.

Can I plant any plants into the artificial grass after it has been fitted?
Yes, but your plant will need enough depth and width to expand their roots into nutritional soil. The grass can be cut to the desired shape and the depth needed for growth must be excavated and then filled with the recommended soil and potting mixture.

Can I use artificial grass beside a swimming pool?
Yes, artificial grass enhances the area of swimming pools. Position the grass a distance of a meter away to avoid chlorine affecting the composite.

Why is sand infill used?
The type of artificial grass used for areas of heavy traffic has been designed for use of sand infill this also helps anchor the product. Always tell us the purpose for which the grass is intended and we will advise accordingly.

Before putting your cash into squirrel proof birdfeeders you may examine a couple of techniques to encourage the squirrels to point out farewell to your feeders. Place your bird feeders in regions far enough from trees to prohibit the creatures jumping on to your feeders and make certain your feeders are as a minimum five feet off the earth.

If these ideas don’t deter squirrels, there are 2 possibilities, either buy an attachment for your existent bird feeders to make them squirrel proof or buy a bird feeder that is specifically designed to be squirrel proof. You’ll sometimes experience larger success should you buy a feeder that is squirrel proof rather than trying to equip your current bird feeders with a gadget.

While the ground is covered in snow, the simplest system to delight in feeding wild birds is to only throw seed around on the snow covered earth. This is the work-shy individual’s technique of bird feeding. Nonetheless, it’s a great deal safer for the birds to get their goodies from a more conventional above the ground bird feeder.

There are now a wide selection of good quality and effective squirrel proof birdfeeders available on the market and they come in a range of styles and shapes. There’s a squirrel explanation version for almost every kind of bird feeder.

regardless of the time of the year, bird food that that spends even a short time on the ground is susceptible to contamination from animal droppings, bacteria, moistness, mold, and lawn chemicals. But there’s no written rule that claims bird feeders need to be fancy.

Once the love of bird watching takes hold, you will find yourself searching for feeders that bring a wide variety of birds and a smaller population of resident squirrels. Fortunately , or unfortunately when you basically begin the shopping experience, there is a huge spread of manufactured squirrel proof birdfeeders for you to make a choice from. Some minister to only tiny birds, some serve peanuts, some hold thistle, some hold suet, and others hold enough seed that you only fill them once every week. Feeders also alter significantly in quality and durability, as well as bird safety.

selecting the’right’ squirrel proof birdfeeders boils down to a handful of issues : the type of birds you would like to attract ; the proposed feeder placement ; the quality you want ; the aesthetics or appearance of the feeder ; the simplicity of cleaning and caring for it ; and, last but not least, the squirrel-proof nature of the feeder.

All else being equal, if your feeder is constantly raided by squirrels, you’ll be robbed of your original intention… To enjoy the peaceful pastime of bird watching. Those lovable small rodents will take over your feeders, scare away the birds, and eat all of your seed, not to say the fact that they’ll destroy your feeders in the process. To keep squirrels out of your feeders takes a mix of the right bird feeder design, and thoughtful placement to escape their stalwart ingenuity and amazing athletic capability.

So how do you make the’right’ bird feeder choice?

Placement – Pick a location which has straightforward year-round accessibility ; consider the’mess factor’ around any bird feeder ; select a view that is rewarding for you ; and find a place that doesn’t help the squirrels. Remember… Squirrels can jump 4 to 6 feet vertically and six to eight feet horizontally

Quality – Design, sturdiness and craftsmanship have some relationship to cost. The better the materials going in, the better the final product and its lifespan. When selecting squirrel proof birdfeeders look for materials that are guaranteed against squirrel damage and are made from quality, sturdy materials.

Aesthetics – Looks are a matter of personal choice. Personally, I’m not as nervous about how a feeder looks as the way the birds will like it.

maintenance – concentrate on what it takes to scrub your feeder. Some are simple and some are designed as if they will never need to be opened up and cleaned… But they’ll.

Squirrel-Proof Design – the only sure way to understand if any bird feeder is successful in repelling squirrels is to have a look at the feedback of prior consumers. Each manufacturer claims their feeders are squirrel-proof, but few really are. Amazon.com has the most purchaser contributions on this topic if you have some time to wade through them.

squirrel proof birdfeeders allow your birds to co-exist happily with the squirrels by stopping the squirrels from taking the bird seed from your bird feeders.

Who does not appreciate a basketful of ripe, red, round, soft, succulent, organically bred and juicy mouthwatering homegrown tomatoes? Virtually everyone does. And oh! What joy!! If they come from your own kitchen garden! For years various big and small cultivators have been looking for the right recipe and vegetable gardening guide for the perfect produce, but this is one secret, which, till now was known to only a few.

Just like your children, your tomato plant requires your undivided attention if you aspire for an exceptional harvest. To be a successful tomato cultivator, you must know all that is there to know about growing good tomatoes. It is almost like deciphering the plant psychology and begins with choosing the right stems to place in your vegetable garden.

Cultivators must ensure that the stalks of their young tomato plants are perfectly healthy and have virtually no sign of any of those diseases that afflict the plants. Young plants need to be monitored to make sure that they get the right amount of moisture to flourish. These should be watered when their leaves show signs of wilting or when the soil is low on moisture, which can be judged by sticking your fingers into it.

Once they take root, your tomato plants require sufficient amount of water to help them bloom properly. While administering organically prepared compost and fertilizers can help your crop to grow well, your tomatoes require a good diet of sunlight and air, which is often denied to them due to lack of knowledge.

Shearing off unnecessary leaves on the plant can help attain this target. Yes, leaves block the adequate supply of sunlight and air to your tomato blooms, which has an adverse impact on the crop. These leaves, which may appear comely to an untrained eye, are nothing but harbingers of death and disease for your plant as they also tend to block the flow of carbon, which is another ingredient that tomatoes require.

Protecting your produce from insects is another important aspect of growing tomatoes. It is advisable to use organically prepared insect repellents for this purpose as these give sure and lasting results, without having any adverse impact on the yield. Planning to plant tomatoes in your vegetable garden? Be sure to employ these tricks, which are now being widely discussed in each and every vegetable gardening guide. You will be amazed with the results.

Do you wish to entertain friends at a party, play a game of volleyball with your children, or relax on a lazy afternoon? Then, what are you waiting for, buy a personal swimming pool. However, a swimming pool is a large purchase, so you must educate yourself as to which one is the right for your home, expectations, budget etc. The four major types of swimming pools are above ground vinyl liner, in ground vinyl liner, in ground fibre glass pool and in ground concrete pool. The ground as well as the in ground pool obviously have both pros and cons, and you should research on all the four different types of pools.

Above ground pools are the cheapest to construct, and the easiest to build. They are even less permanent, which could prove to be a good thing, and are comparatively easier to disassemble and be moved to a new location. In ground pools are of 3 major types. In ground fibre glass pools are ones which have been moulded into the shape of a basin, and are made from fibre glass reinforced plastic. In ground vinyl liner pools are structurally very much like above ground pools, however, they look a lot like conventional in ground designs. These pools are not as durable as other in-ground designs, but they are a lot cheaper. In ground concrete pools are probably the most popular design of pools. They are highly durable, and can be built in almost any shape or size.

In no time, you can build a beautiful digital outdoor sanctuary, discover the dream pool perfectly suited for you and your family, and come to know of all the amazing options available for a new escape, in a good way, of course.

You can nowadays place orders for different types of swimming pools, whether it is an above ground or in ground pool. There are a lot of good companies offering such services, one of them in particular, is Krevwin Pools . It has a wide range of products available in attractive prices.
